Muddy Monday Race 3

On yet another Sunny evening 18 riders entered round 3 of the Barnesbury CC’s Muddy Monday MTB League on 17th June 2013 at Gallagher Park Bedlington, supported by Bernicia and Start Cycles. The event saw tussles taking place throughout the age categories in a battle to secure more points to add to the league. Race 1 of the evening saw an altered format to the 2 previous rounds. The time trial this week included a downhill section. Fastest time on the evening for the under 16’s was Finn Robertson (Derwentside CC). This set up a great battle between Robertson and Jack Watson (Barnesbury CC / Start Cycles) which ended in a sprint on the final section at the end of the mass start race, which resulted in Watson managing to stay ahead in the sprint to the line to win overall for the evening after Watson beat Robertson into third in the skills event. In the u12 event another fantastic tussle saw Grace Castle (Newcastle Pheonix) secure an evening victory over favourite and fastest rider in the age category - Daniel Holmes (Tyneside Vags) after Castle’s consistency with the 3 events, and the skills round in particularly overcalled Holmes taking the evenings win by 5 points. Another battle in the u6 event was between Barnesbury CC riders Jon Morley and Ollie Hutchinson. With each taking 1 win each into the mass start race Hutchinson lead in the early stages of the final race, however a crash late into the race saw Morley edge past Hutchinson to take the victory.

 

Great riding by all the riders on a harder than usual course. See you next week. Remember the best 5 rounds are used for the overall points score and all riders taking part in 5 evenings will share the prize pot at the end of the league.
