Barnesbury Kit Launch at CJ Perfomance Cycles

Barnesbury CC Show Off Their New Jersey at Sponsor CJ Performance Cycles Ltd Store Opening

Barnesbury Cycling Club’s members gathered for the official opening of their main sponsor’s Newcastle store.  This was a great opportunity to show off their new club jersey design, which combines historical Barnesbury elements with a modern feel.

Barnesbury is one of the oldest clubs in the North East of England. The club was originally formed in the west end of Newcastle in 1923 and 92 years later the club is still going strong with members in SE Northumberland, Newcastle and Whitley Bay areas. Barnesbury members are involved in just about all cycling disciplines, both recreational and racing.  The club is proud to count among its members a world champion, Jack Watson, who in 2014 won the Human Powered Vehicle Championships in the Junior category.

The Club benefits from sponsorship from CJ Performance Cycles Ltd, a family business which has been serving the North East cycling community for over 5 years from their Cramlington store, and now also from a large store and workshop in Shields Road, Byker.  Between the two stores CJ sell a variety of brands to suit every type of rider, including a good range of ladies and children’s bicycles:  Giant, Liv, Scott, Boardman Elite Range, Haro, Social, Cuda, Bumper, Genesis, Ridley, Saracen, Rapide, Ridgeback.

There is also an extensive choice of clothing and accessories, including separate ladies’ section.

Barnesbury’s other sponsors include React Electrical Services – certified electrical contractors, covering domestic and commercial sector in Northumberland and Newcastle, and Padon Contracts Ltd, a commercial construction company.

Club’s Time Trial competitions are sponsored by Sims Cycle Workshop in Morpeth.

Club Secretary Stephen McIntosh said:

“With the support of our sponsors over the next 3 years, the club can continue to grow.  It will allow us to focus on developing riders to National and International events, as the money goes directly to our race team across the cycle sport disciplines. Helping to develop our riders’ potential is the real focus within our club; it will also make that step up in racing more affordable.   The club’s self generated income will be used to grow our community feel in youth and beginner riders, enabling Barnesbury CC members to challenge themselves at all levels of ability within the sport”
