The club would like to wish all our members young and old a very Merry Christmas and a restful successful New Year (not too much rest!!!). The club has continued to grow from strength to strength in 2015 and hope 2016 will see the number of members grow. Our competitive riders achievements also continue to develop this year, just like the progress we have made in recent years, and to reflect this our prize presentation will be held on Saturday 23rd January 2016 (see separate article on our website for details).
If you are new to the sport, the club has introduced a cycling kit recycling scheme to give out unwanted bike kit/clothing to those starting out (please get in touch with Stephen McIntosh if you are looking for kit or would like to donate old kit). This scheme has helped some of our young riders get more involved in the sport, however we are always looking at helping anyone in the club young or old if they feel they need help. The Barnesbury is also the only club that coaches and develops riders potential in road, TT's, cross, MTB and BMX a unique position to be in, but this has given the club a wider appeal to encourage youngsters to get involved in cycle sport, something that is slowly developing and bearing fruit.
2016 is looking at becoming a very exciting year for the club. We are looking forward to developing facilities at Gallagher Park in conjunction with Northumberland County Council to include a building that the club can utilise for coaching/events, further developing teams to ride road, TTS', cross and MTB as well as further developing regional competition in BMX and developing our very successful events to incorporate a winter MTB series for youngsters and hopefully another cross event. We want more riders achieving National BC points across the discipline range and increasing the number of riders achieving BC points in the first instance.
The club has recently highlighted that if our members are looking to develop into riding National/International events we do have a scheme to help offset some of the financial burden this can place on members, thanks in part to our sponsors CJ Cycles, Pardon Contracts and React Electrical for their continued support. I hope to further publish details onto our website menu early in the New Year to help advertise what is needed to do this (in the mean time please contact a committee member or us through the website for info).
Finally, remember to renew your club membership for 2016 early..... you can even do this now (yes in 2015!!!) via the website, making an early Christmas present to yourself to continue to be part of a much loved cycling club.
Yours in sport
